Food Intolerance
Food sensitivity is a slightly controversial issue, and it is a recognised fact that food intolerance testing is at best slightly flawed, however in clinical practice I have found that undertaking food intolerance testing can help identify foods that are triggering an immune response, symptoms of which are many and varied and not limited to the gastrointestinal system.
I often find that people who have imbalances within their gastrointestinal tract may also then develop food intolerances, these may improve as the terrain of the gut improves.
In food sensitivity it is the IgG antibody response that creates sensitivity to a particular food. Symptoms may be less severe than with IgE allergic reaction and can manifest anywhere from 3-72 hours after exposure to the intolerant food. IgG reactions create systemic inflammation that can make many health issues worse. The delayed response makes sensitivities difficult to identify without a diagnostic test.
Sensitivities can improve with treatment and through improved gut health.
